Changes in Influence Factors on Subjective Class Identification and Class Mobility Possibility of the Youth
Lee Yong-Kwan

Abstract
There has been a growing debate about the difficulty of class mobility by individual efforts. This study is to investigate changes in influence factors on subjective class identification and class mobility possibility of youth using social survey data provided by the National Statistical Office. This result shows that not only economic capital but also cultural and social capital are strong factors in determining subjective class identification. Specially, the influence of parents' economic resources on the subjective class identification is increasing. The class mobility possibility of youth is decreasing, and the influence of characteristics of parents or households tends to increase. In addition, when they are employed, the class mobility possibility tends to be low, which suggests that the job preparation and search period of young people is getting longer. These results show that the class structure of our society is fixed and the class mobility of individual effort is weakening. It also suggests that activities to reduce social inequality should be accompanied by activities to reduce the economic gap and to reduce social and cultural capital gaps.
